New Group Managing Director leads the way at Nuaire
Nuaire, world leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of energy efficient domestic, commercial, industrial ventilation and control equipment, has announced the appointment of a new group managing director.Mark Huxtable will be responsible for the management of the business’ and will oversee all core company functions including sales, marketing, finance, product development, procurement, and manufacturing.
A Chartered Engineer with a degree in Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Mr Huxtable joined Nuaire in 1988 and moved quickly from a development engineering role into the realms of manufacturing.
Having joined the board of Nuaire in 1994, the 49-year-old from Newport moved to France for three years as President of its subsidiary AREM, one of Europe’s largest manufacturers of high temperature axial fans, acquired by Nuaire in 1998. After successfully integrating the business within the group, Mr Huxtable returned to Nuaire’s UK base in Caerphilly as group manufacturing and engineering director whilst retaining responsibility for the French operation.
On his promotion to group managing director, Mr Huxtable said: “My objective is to continue the trend of profitable growth and to establish a sustainable, three-year business plan with a strategy that underpins the growth requirements of the shareholders. We will be working to implement what is an ambitious strategic plan but one which the business and its people are fully capable of achieving.”
Nuaire is currently backed by private equity firm Electra Partners LLP. Mr Huxtable, together with the group financial director Mr Robert Parry, was part of the original management buyout team in 2007.
Mr Huxtable continued: “Against the backdrop of a construction industry which is currently experiencing challenging times, we must continue to focus on development and innovation not only in terms of our products but also in the way we do business in order to capture a bigger slice of a static to diminishing market.”
With a turnover in the region of £65million, Nuaire recently benefited from Welsh Government funding to assist it in securing major new factory equipment. The purchase of new sheet metal processing equipment represented an investment in the region of £2.2 million by the business, making Nuaire the most heavily invested ventilation manufacturer in the UK.
Mr Huxtable added: “We will also be continuing to grow our presence in terms of international markets, particularly the Middle East but also with a firm objective of seeking new opportunities that may exist in other emerging world markets.
"Nuaire is one of the few ventilation experts to have successfully developed a reputation for specialist knowledge and product innovation across residential, commercial and industrial markets. This versatility, together with unrivalled expert industry experience, is an attribute which continues to set us apart from our competitors and places us very much at the forefront of both the UK and European ventilation industry.”
Nuaire unveils next generation of low-energy fans at Ecobuild, 20-22 March 2012

Nuaire, the market leader in the design and manufacture of energy-efficient ventilation systems, will showcase at Ecobuild 2012 a new range of cutting-edge fan designs for both the residential and commercial markets.
Known globally for its technological innovation, experts at Nuaire have answered the chief challenges that face building designers in today’s difficult market: namely meeting ever-tightening legislation, improving energy-efficiency and indoor air quality, and getting value for money.
The latest development of two new high efficiency, low power mechanical heat recovery ventilation systems (MVHR) answers these challenges whilst further expanding the successful MRXBOX95 range. Nuaire has developed an additional MVHR system specifically to address the lack of space available for standard MVHR units in modern apartments. The new MRXBOX95-LP is a low profile, void-mounted unit designed specifically for applications where storage space is at a premium. The new design provides the lowest specific fan power of any void-mounted MVHR system available and will be on SAP Appendix Q shortly.
In addition to the new low profile MVHR system Nuaire will launch a new compact wall mounted MVHR system to complement their existing compact wall range. The MRXBOX95-WM1 is a midduty range, high efficiency, low energy heat recovery system suitable for both houses and apartments up to 140 square metres in size, and will service up to 5 wet rooms.
Alongside the MRVR, Nuaire will use the Ecobuild show to launch a new cost-effective MEV solution for new build projects. The MEVDC2 is the latest offering from the existing range of multipoint extract systems, and has been specifically designed for quick and cost-effective installation.
The space-saving, low profile unit has the option to fix in any plane, horizontally or vertically, allowing for quick and efficient installation at either first or second fix stage. Designed to meet Part F & L Building Regulations and SAP Q Eligible, the MEVDC2 delivers low SFPs with high performance, benefiting the environment and the end-user.

Nuaire introduces innovation in home ventilation
Sunwarm Air is intelligent and unique approach to whole home ventilation and is an entirely new technology to be SAP Appendix Q recognised. In addition the system, which maximises energy efficiency in the home by capturing solar energy via two roof collectors, has been proven to meet Code 4 for Sustainable Homes.
The Air Handling Unit has been designed using expanded polypropylene which provides excellent thermal insulation and incorporates an all year round low energy positive input ventilation unit. The system monitors a plurality of temperature sensors located within the ducting of each of the three inlet locations; the collectors, loft space and fresh air intake. The flow of air through the system is then automatically controlled to optimise energy efficiency, whilst always providing adequate ventilation to the home; preventing condensation and moisture build up. Sunwarm Air is a cost effective ventilation solution suitable for both new build and self build homes, specifically designed with the housebuilder in mind. These units are installed quickly and simply in to the homes loft area negating the need for duct runs and minimising disturbance to the building fabric.

Nuaire Demonstrates its Commitment to the Environment
Nuaire has recently been awarded the Environmental Management Standard ISO 14001:2004 for its commitment to improving the impact of its activities on the environment.
The certificate was presented to Nuaire Operations Director, Mark Huxtable by Dr Martin Turner, Director of Programme from ARENA Network and Jeff Cuthbert, Assembly Member for Caerphilly and with Gary Hopkins of the Welsh Assembly Government also in attendance.
Nuaire is a world leader in the development and manufacture of fans and ventilation systems, designing and manufacturing domestic, commercial and renewable ventilation solutions which set the standard for energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.
Nuaire is committed to continuous improvement in environmental performance and the prevention of pollution, recognising that the company has a duty and responsibility to reduce the environmental impact of its business activities on the local and wider community.
Mark Huxtable commented:
That the achievement was largely due to the workforce at Caerphilly showing real commitment to the project from start to finish. He also said that
Nuaire is now far better equipped to satisfy the needs of its customers as a result of the programme, whilst minimising its impact on the local community.
The company has always been environmentally conscious but in 2006 an environmental review was carried out by ARENA Network, (an independent organisation providing practical support on environmental management and training related issues), resulting in the programme being championed through the Welsh Green Dragon Awards.
The Green Dragon Award, is a stepped approach to environmental management and offers a relevant strategy to the specific needs of any company. When Nuaire reached level 4 it was assessed by BSI to achieve ISO14001 accreditation in May 2008.
This recognises the company’s success in maximising environmental efficiency and performance and minimising harmful effects on both the local environment and in the wider context through developing and manufacturing some of the most energy efficient ventilation systems available in the market.
Mark Bird, Senior SHE Advisor for Nuaire, said:
Reducing the environmental impact of our business is a high priority for Nuaire which is evident through our continuous improvement programmes. These include the specific environmental objectives of reducing energy consumption, and promoting the use of renewable technologies as well as our ongoing product development programme.
At Nuaire we manufacture environmentally friendly products such as the Ecosmart and Sunwarm ranges. We offer our customers expert advice on issues such as carbon emission and how to achieve compliance with the very latest building regulations by using energy efficient products. We wanted, ourselves, to ‘practice what we preach’ and become an environmentally conscious company.
Some of the measures implemented by Nuaire include maximizing efficient use of natural resources by completing a carbon trust audit, reducing waste to landfill (by 46%), raising the environmental awareness of all employees through regular updates and training and monitoring electricity, gas and water use. On a day to day level Nuaire have made great strives to increase recycling of waste and have formulated a Green Team with representatives from all departments across the company.

Nuaire Fans Get Up Close and Personal with Primates
Nuaire's constant pressure system is well known for its ability to provide energy saving multi-room ventilation. Up until now residents to benefit from the on demand ventilation system have been of the human variety. ……however the latest species to feel the benefits are primates – the chimpanzees at Edinburgh Zoo!
Nuaire was commissioned to provide the ventilation system for the new £5.65 million primate building, named the Budongo Trail, at Edinburgh Zoo. The new enclosure is named after the Budongo Forest Project in Uganda, which was set up by Professor Vernon Reynolds to protect the forest and its chimpanzees and to undertake research into the dynamics of the forest.
The 1400m2 facility will house up to 50 chimpanzees in a naturalistic environment, consisting of three chimpanzee houses linked by bridges and tunnels as well an external enclosure. The public will be able to get as close as possible to the chimps using a route which weaves between the pods and gives visual access to the chimps at points along the way.
RSP Consulting Engineers LLP approached Nuaire to utilise their expertise in providing energy saving ventilation solutions.
The constant pressure principle reduces energy consumption by using a unique control damper that reacts to the environment’s requirements. The fan adjusts its speed to suit the damper, matching the system output to demand.
This can save up to as much as 70% of energy over conventionally controlled systems, reducing carbon emissions as well as lowering running costs.
Continuous low level background ventilation ensures that the chimpanzees enjoy a constantly fresh environment providing comfortable surroundings for the unusual residents.
The on demand ventilation results in fans that are rarely at 100% of design duty and this combined with the unique integrated silencers ensures that acoustic requirements are maintained. As a result the exceptionally quiet operation of the systems means that the chimps are not distracted by the unnatural noise of fan motors.

Nuaire’s Going Greener......
As part of our ongoing commitment we set specific objectives last year to reduce the impact that we have on the environment. Based on 2007 environmental objectives and targets, the objective to reduce waste to landfill by 20% was achieved. Waste to landfill in 2006 equated to 110 tonnes, in 2007 it was reduced to 74 tonnes.
Waste data for last year breaks down into the following:
Total 807 tonnes of which 90% was recycled
Initiatives already implemented for 2008 is to divert plastic packaging from landfill which is estimated at 9 tonnes.
